Mine competitor gaps or start from a keyword tool?
Q: Finding new topics — competitor content-gap analysis or a keyword tool?
A: Short answer: competitor gaps for a niche you know, keyword tools to map one you don't.
Longer answer: a content-gap pass shows you the exact queries a ranking competitor covers that you don't — high-confidence topics already proven to draw traffic in your space, no guessing about demand. A keyword tool casts wider and surfaces things no competitor has touched, but you carry the risk that some of it has no real intent behind it. So if you're already in a niche, mine the gap first — it's pre-validated. When you're entering fresh territory with no competitor to copy from, the tool builds your initial map.
Gaps tell you what's working now. Tools tell you what might.
