Host backups vs your own off-site copies
Heard this week: everyone trusts the host's nightly backup until the host is the disaster.
— Built-in daily backups are convenient and fine for an oops-I-deleted-a-page
— Independent off-site (BlogVault, Jetpack VaultPress, your own S3) survives the host going dark, getting acquired, or locking your account in a billing dispute
A source tells us the scenario nobody plans for is a billing or terms dispute freezing your panel, backups and all, the day you most need to leave. Word is the shops that got burned now keep a second copy somewhere the host can't touch, on principle.
Watch this: 'backups you actually own' becomes a compliance checkbox, not a nice-to-have.
