Geo Pulse #64 — Running one consent banner worldwide
Theme: privacy-by-GEO mistakes that break tracking or law.
→ One cookie banner for every country. GDPR (EU/UK) needs explicit opt-in; many US states use opt-out; some GEOs need none. A single banner is either illegal or kills your data unnecessarily. Fix: geo-gate the consent flow.
→ Over-blocking outside the EU. Showing a hard EU-style opt-in to US traffic suppresses your own analytics and pixels for no legal reason. Match the banner to the GEO's regime.
→ The pixel consequence. Wrong consent handling means your conversion pixels don't fire in the EU, and your optimization data rots silently.
→ Resource. IAB TCF + a geo-aware consent platform (Cookiebot, OneTrust, Osano) handle the per-GEO logic. Source: the regional-rules matrix any of those vendors publishes.
