Knowledge panel: Wikidata or Google Business Profile?
Today's lesson: a knowledge panel — that box of facts on the right side of search results — is built from sources Google trusts. To influence one, you pick the right door.
Think of two different reception desks for two different visitors.
1. For a local shop or service, use Google Business Profile. It feeds the panel that shows hours, phone, and a map. Free, fast, you control it.
2. For a brand, person, or topic, use Wikidata (an open facts database). It feeds panels with no physical address — the 'who is this' kind.
3. Don't mix them up. A plumber editing Wikidata wastes effort; a software brand chasing a map pin gets nowhere.
The tradeoff: Business Profile is instant but local-only; Wikidata is broad but slow and needs sources to back every claim.
Try this: search your brand and notice if its panel has a map. That tells you which door to knock on. 🎓
