The mistake: stacking up redirects

The mistake: stacking up redirects

Over the years a URL might redirect from http to https, then to www, then to a new path — a chain of hops. Each hop is a round trip before the real page even starts loading. That delays everything downstream, including LCP — Largest Contentful Paint.

Think of it like being transferred to four different phone departments before anyone helps you.

How to fix it:
— Test your important links and watch how many redirects fire (browser dev tools show this in the Network tab).
— Update internal links to point straight to the final URL — no hops.
— Collapse server redirect rules so one redirect lands directly on the destination.

Try this: type your bare domain into the address bar and watch where it lands. If it bounces through several URLs, shortening that chain speeds up every visit.
