Q: Consent Mode basic or advanced — which should I implement?
A: It's a tradeoff between simplicity and recovered data.
— Basic blocks Google tags entirely until consent is given. Simpler, but you lose all data from users who decline, and no modeling kicks in.
— Advanced loads tags in a cookieless state before consent, sending pinged signals that let GA4 model the declined-consent conversions.
— Choose advanced if you're in the EU/EEA, have decent traffic volume (modeling needs a threshold), and want behavioral modeling to fill gaps.
TL;DR: Basic = no tag fires pre-consent, zero modeling. Advanced = cookieless pings enable conversion modeling. Pick advanced for EU traffic at volume; basic only if you must.
