Q: When is it worth exporting to BigQuery instead of just using Explore?
A: Cross the line when GA4's interface starts limiting you.
— Stay in Explore if your questions fit standard dimensions, date ranges under a few months, and you don't hit sampling or row limits.
— Move to BigQuery (Admin → Product links → BigQuery links) when you need raw unsampled event-level data, joins with CRM data, retention beyond GA4's 14-month default, or custom attribution.
— Reality check: BigQuery needs SQL and the schema is nested — budget learning time, though the export itself is free up to the streaming quota.
TL;DR: Explore for standard slicing; BigQuery when you need raw, unsampled, joinable, long-retention data. Don't reach for SQL until the UI actually blocks you.
