Q: We replatformed and the new system created totally different URLs. We didn't map them. Now what?
A: Stressful, but very fixable — let's get methodical. Short answer: without a redirect map, every old indexed URL is now a 404, and you're losing the rankings and links those pages held.
Long answer: Replatforming (moving CMS or e-commerce engine) almost always reshuffles URL structures. The mistake is launching first and mapping later. The good news: you can rebuild the map from data. Pull old URLs from your previous sitemap, Search Console, analytics, and a backup crawl, then match each to its new equivalent.
The fix:
— Export old URLs from GSC (Pages report), analytics, and any archived crawl
— Map each to the closest new URL, prioritizing top-traffic pages first
— Implement as 301s, no homepage dumping
Next step: export your top 500 old URLs by clicks from Search Console and start mapping those today.
