Which permalink structure to choose

A permalink is the web address of a single page (the part after your domain). WordPress offers several formats, and the default is a bad one.

The default looks like /?p=123, which means nothing to people or search engines.

Your choices, simplified:
— 'Post name' gives /how-to-bake-bread. Clean, readable, best for most sites. Pick this.
— 'Day and name' adds the date, which is fine for a news site but makes old posts look stale.
— Category-based can create messy, changing URLs if you ever recategorize.

One warning: change this on a new site, not an established one, or old links break.
