Automatic updates vs doing them by hand
Updates patch security holes, so they matter. But should WordPress install them for you, or should you click the button yourself?
— Turn on automatic updates for small security releases (the ones labeled like 6.4.1 to 6.4.2). These rarely break anything, and waiting only leaves you exposed.
— Do major updates by hand (like 6.4 to 6.5). Make a backup first, then click update while you're awake to spot problems.
— For plugins, automatic is fine for simple ones, but update a page builder or shop plugin manually so you can check the site right after.
Don't worry, updates are reversible if you backed up.
In plain words: auto for tiny security fixes, manual and backed-up for the big ones.
