I didn't open Search Console for 90 days and it cost me thousands
Month 4: site was humming, 6k visits, $500/mo. I'm a 'set it and forget it' guy, so I stopped checking GSC. Just wrote more.
Month 7: traffic flat at 6k despite 30 new articles. I finally opened Search Console and my stomach dropped. The Pages report showed 140 'Crawled - currently not indexed.' Almost half my new content was never indexed. A plugin update had injected a stray noindex on my default post template.
The worse part: my top earner, a 'best [product]' page, had quietly slipped from #4 to #11 over two months. A competitor expanded their page and I never noticed because I wasn't watching position data.
The turn: fixed the noindex, requested indexing in batches, and built a Monday-morning ritual — 15 minutes in GSC, every week. Indexed pages jumped, traffic hit 11k within two months.
The takeaway: writing more content while ignoring whether Google can even see it is shoveling sand. Fifteen minutes a week in Search Console catches the silent killers — index drops, position slides, coverage errors — before they compound into months of lost revenue.
