Mining 'People Also Ask' rebuilt this survival-gear site
Month 1: emergency-prep and survival-gear site, stuck at 16k sessions and $510/month for half a year. My articles ranked okay but never broke through.
Month 7: out of ideas, I started systematically harvesting the 'People Also Ask' questions for every keyword I ranked for, then added genuine FAQ sections answering them at the bottom of each post — 'how long does freeze-dried food last', 'can you reuse a water filter', real questions buyers had.
The turn: those FAQ answers started ranking for the questions themselves, and several grabbed featured snippets. One post went from a single keyword to ranking for 40+ question variations.
The setback: I got greedy and added 15 FAQ items to some posts; the bloated ones actually dipped — Google seemed to prefer 4-6 genuinely useful answers over a question dump. Trimmed them back.
Month 12: 16k → 39k sessions. Revenue $510 → $1,240. I didn't write new articles — I made existing ones answer more questions.
The takeaway: every keyword you rank for comes with a list of questions Google literally hands you. Answering them well turns one ranking page into ten. It's the most underused free keyword research on the internet.
