Disavow vs. do nothing: the spam-link decision
This week on the radar — when toxic-link tooling earns its keep, and when it's theater.
🔗 [Google's own guidance] — most sites never need the disavow file; the link spam system already discounts junk algorithmically.
🔗 [Backlink audit tools (third-party 'toxicity scores')] — flag aggressively because that's their product; their score is a heuristic, not Google's judgment.
🔗 [Search Console — Links report] — the ground truth on what Google actually associates with you.
The tradeoff: disavow only on confirmed manual action for unnatural links, or after a deliberate negative-SEO/PBN history you know about. Reflexive disavowing from a vendor's toxicity score can remove links that were helping you.
One to bookmark: Google's link spam documentation — the calmest answer to 'should I disavow these?' is usually no.
