Ch. 12: Ahrefs vs LowFruits, $99 lesson
My air-purifier site, started Jan 2023. I paid $99/mo for Ahrefs and spent three months chasing keywords with KD under 10. Ranked for almost nothing. The problem: Ahrefs scores difficulty off backlinks, but my whole niche was dominated by weak-link forums and old listicles that still outranked me.
Month 6 I switched to LowFruits at $25 one-off credits. It flags SERPs with weak spots — forum posts, Quora, sites with no topical depth. I exported 40 of those, wrote 40 articles. By month 9, 22 ranked top 5. Revenue went from $40 to $610/mo.
Ahrefs is the better tool for a backlink-heavy niche. For a thin informational niche, SERP-weakness beats difficulty scores every time.
Lesson banked: difficulty metrics describe the average competitor. You only need to beat the weakest one ranking.
