Targeting only job titles (and missing half your buyers)
New to LinkedIn Ads? Here's a common miss. You target the exact title "Chief Marketing Officer" and feel precise. But titles are messy — people write "Head of Marketing," "VP Marketing," "Marketing Lead," or nothing useful at all.
With title-only targeting, you skip thousands of real decision-makers just because their wording differs.
The fix: combine Job Function (Marketing) plus Seniority (Director, VP, CXO). That catches the role no matter how they phrased the title.
Think of it like searching for a friend by job, not by their exact business-card text.
Why it matters: function plus seniority is steadier and far harder to mistype.
Next step: rebuild one audience using function and seniority instead of titles.
