Changing 80 internal anchors moved a page from position 12 to 4

A page targeting an 7,200-vol term wouldn't break page 1. We left the page alone and changed only its internal links.

The page had strong external signals but its own site was describing it with generic anchors ('read more', 'this guide'). We rewrote 71 anchors to partial-match the target query.

Nothing on the page itself changed. No new backlinks.

So what: internal anchor text is a difficulty lever you fully control. Most sites waste it on 'click here'.
