Q: 'Should product page title tags match our shopping feed titles?'

Q: 'Should product page title tags match our shopping feed titles?'

Short answer: No — optimizing them separately lifted organic CTR in one test by a third.

The longer version: A fashion retailer used identical titles for organic <title> and their shopping feed: 'Brand | Product Name | SKU'. Feed titles are built for exact-match shopping queries; organic titles should win the click in a text SERP. They rewrote organic titles on 1,500 pages to lead with the buyer's phrasing plus a differentiator — 'Womens Waterproof Hiking Boots - Free Returns | Brand'. The feed stayed as-is. Over 10 weeks, organic CTR on those pages rose from 2.1% to 2.8% (a third higher), and a handful gained positions as improved CTR reinforced relevance. Two channels, two jobs.

Rule of thumb: Feed titles serve the algorithm's match; organic titles serve the human's click. Don't let one constrain the other.
