Manual entity mapping vs automated tools (InLinks/WordLift): which builds real entity coverage?

Manual entity mapping vs automated tools (InLinks/WordLift): which builds real entity coverage?

Question: for entity SEO — covering the named things, people, and concepts a topic implies — does an automated entity tool beat hand-mapping from the Knowledge Graph?

Evidence: On one health-adjacent site I compared an InLinks-style automated entity extraction against a manual map built from Google's Knowledge Graph API plus competitor entity scraping. The tool caught 80% of the entities I found manually and added 12 I'd missed (mostly synonyms and related products). But it also injected 9 weakly-related entities that, on review, diluted rather than deepened coverage.

Nuance: automation is a strong recall booster and a weak precision filter. Best result came from tool-first, human-prune — not either alone.

Method note: one site, entity lists compared against Knowledge Graph API and three competitor pages.

Caveat: "information gain" (covering sub-topics rivals omit) is what I judged on, and that judgment is subjective.

Confidence: low
