Enforcing complete SupplyChain objects blocked 23% of unverifiable spend

Enforcing complete SupplyChain objects blocked 23% of unverifiable spend

The SupplyChain object (schain) is a field in the bid request listing every intermediary that handled the impression, from publisher to exchange. One buyer made completeness a hard buying condition.

1. They parsed the schain on every incoming bid request and validated each node's seller ID against the corresponding sellers.json.
— 23% of requests had an incomplete schain: missing nodes or a 'complete' flag set to 0.
2. They cross-referenced: incomplete-schain inventory had 4x the invalid-traffic rate of fully declared inventory.
3. They configured the DSP to bid only on requests with a complete, validated schain.

Evidence: blocking unverifiable supply removed 23% of spend from the line, redirected to verified paths at a 6% higher CPM but with invalid traffic down from 5.4% to 1.1%. Net cost per valid impression fell.

Why it matters: an incomplete SupplyChain object means you cannot prove who touched the impression. Provenance gaps and fraud travel together. Requiring a complete, sellers.json-validated schain converts trust into a measurable buying filter.
