Myth: a high-RPM landing page means a profitable native funnel.
Wrong — RPM hides where the money leaks. An arbitrage operator celebrated a $0.024 page RPM. The whole funnel still lost money. Why?
He'd never segmented RPM by traffic source. When he did, his cheapest native source delivered $0.009 RPM users — they clicked the inbound bait, then bounced before any monetized scroll. His expensive source delivered $0.038 RPM. The blended $0.024 was a lie averaging a loser and a winner.
He cut the cheap source, scaled the expensive one, and the page RPM the dashboard showed barely moved — but profit went from negative to $4k/month.
A blended average is where bad sources hide behind good ones. Segment, or get robbed quietly.
