A tool flagged their press-release syndication as toxic. Disavowing it dropped a money page.
The myth: syndicated and low-DA links are toxic and should go.
A fintech disavowed 600 domains a tool flagged, including a press-release distribution that had syndicated to 200+ regional news and finance sites. One target page that ranked #3 for a commercial term slid to #11 within a month.
They removed the syndication network from the disavow file. The page climbed back to #4 over the next six weeks.
Actually, nofollowed and low-authority press links aren't "toxic" — many were passing topical relevance and a trickle of trust the algorithm valued. The tool couldn't tell citation from spam.
Reality check: "low domain authority" is not a synonym for "harmful." Disavow it and you may amputate a working link.
