The headline is 80% of native ad performance. Most buyers treat it like a secondary consideration.

The headline is 80% of native ad performance. Most buyers treat it like a secondary consideration.

Native placements show users a thumbnail and a headline. That's the entire first impression. Everything downstream — click, landing page read, conversion — depends on whether that headline earns a click from someone who was there to read something else.

What works in native headlines:

- Specificity outperforms vagueness. "This 7-minute habit reduced my coffee spending by $340" beats "How I saved money this year"
- Information gap (curiosity hook) that the user can only resolve by clicking
- Audience self-identification signals: "If you own a home in [state]..."
- Contrast with conventional wisdom: statements that contradict what the reader already believes have higher initial engagement

What kills native headlines:
- Hype language that signals "ad" — "Shocking," "You won't believe..."
- Generic claims with no specificity
- Anything that looks like it belongs on a banner ad

Test 8-10 headline variants per offer. The winner will significantly outperform the average.
