Native advertising's core advantage is often explained wrong.
The standard pitch is "it looks like editorial content, so people trust it more." That's partially true but misses the deeper mechanic.
The real advantage: native ads reach users in a reading mindset, not a browsing mindset. Someone actively consuming a news article or blog post has higher cognitive engagement than someone scrolling a social feed. That engagement state makes them more receptive to information and more likely to read past the headline.
This means native works best for offers that require explanation — financial products, health decisions, software with learning curves, anything with a "why it matters" component.
Where native underperforms: impulse purchases, offers that convert on immediate emotion, anything that needs visual spectacle.
Match your offer to the mindset, not just the format. Native's reading-mode audience is a specific kind of intent — learn to recognize when your offer fits it.
