The site that "fixed Core Web Vitals and lost 15% revenue"

The site that "fixed Core Web Vitals and lost 15% revenue"

The claim: a publisher stripped ad units to pass CWV, revenue dropped, conclusion: "ads and speed are a zero-sum trap."

The asterisk: they cut units in month one and measured month one. CWV improvements pay back through rankings over 8–12 weeks, not days. The revenue from fewer units showed up immediately; the traffic from better rankings hadn't arrived yet.

🚩 Hidden variable: the lag between the two effects. Ad cuts hit instantly; ranking gains are a slow-release.

By month four, organic sessions were up 18% and total revenue passed the old peak.

Not saying fewer ads always wins — saying measuring a slow-payback change at week two captures only the cost and none of the return.
