Redirect traffic is not just low-CPM inventory. It's a precision tool when you know what the redirected user was trying to do.
Type-in traffic (users who typed a domain directly) is the cleanest segment. These people had intent. They typed something, landed on your page instead, and are still reading. That window is short — 3 to 5 seconds — so your above-the-fold has to do the full job.
What works: a single clear value proposition, a soft CTA, and no popups on first load. What kills it: too many redirects in the chain, more than two hops, and ad-heavy layouts.
The segment worth isolating in your tracker: direct nav sources separated by device. Desktop type-in behaves completely differently from mobile. Treat them as separate campaigns.
