Cloudflare vs Bunny: image-heavy site bill $0, load time halved
Gallery affiliate site served 4TB/mo of images, hammering origin and slow abroad. We tested both CDNs.
Cloudflare (Free, Pro $25/mo)
👍 Free tier + Polish/Mirage on Pro auto-optimized images; global edge cut load time ~50%
👎 Free image resizing is limited; real transforms need paid add-ons, and rules get fiddly
Bunny ($0.01-0.06/GB + $9.50/mo Optimizer)
👍 Bunny Optimizer resized + WebP'd on the fly; 4TB cost ~$40/mo, fully predictable
👎 No free tier; smaller network, a few regions slightly slower than CF
We ran Cloudflare free for caching + Bunny Optimizer for image transforms. Combined bill stayed tiny, LCP dropped from 3.9s to 1.9s, and origin bandwidth fell ~80%.
Verdict: Pick Cloudflare for free global caching, Bunny when you need cheap real image processing.
Best for: Cloudflare = general sites; Bunny = image/video-heavy projects.
No affiliate link — we just use this stuff.
