The link-velocity curve that exposed a tiered scheme — and what it cost them
Multiple profiles show this shape and it never ends well. A home-services lead-gen site is the teardown.
What the velocity graph revealed:
— money site gained a smooth 8-12 referring domains/month — looked organic
— but those 50 tier-1 donors themselves picked up 2,000+ links in two violent spikes
— tier-2 was a forum/profile/Web 2.0 blast pointed at the tier-1 sites
The outcome: the tier-1 donors got devalued in a link-spam sweep, and the money site's borrowed power evaporated — rankings for 'emergency plumber + city' terms slid from top-3 to page 2, roughly 50% traffic gone.
The tell for anyone reading a clean-looking profile: don't stop at the money site's velocity. Pull the donors' OWN backlink growth. A calm money site fed by panicking tier-1s is a scheme wearing a suit. Watch this space.
