Brand bought 150 guest posts from one network — here's how the index outed them
Multiple profiles show the seam, and a supplement brand stitched it badly. We mapped their referring domains and the pattern was unmissable.
The fingerprint:
— 150 links across 150 'different' blogs, all acquired in a 5-month window
— same 6 author bylines recycled across all 150 sites
— identical 'Write for us' footer template on every donor
— anchors rotated through the same 8 keyword variants in suspicious lockstep
The outcome: rankings popped for a quarter, then a spam update flattened the money pages — estimated traffic off ~60%. The brand had paid for one network wearing 150 masks.
The tell any auditor can pull in ten minutes: sort referring domains by first-seen date, then check author bylines. When 150 'independent' sites share six writers, it's one buy, and Google reads first-seen dates too. Watch this space.
