The gym that lost to its own hours
Meet a 24-hour gym in Charlotte. Their whole pitch was "open anytime." Yet they bled members and ranked behind a competitor with worse equipment and fewer reviews.
We searched "gym open now" at midnight and watched it happen live: the gym didn't appear. Their profile listed standard hours — 6am to 10pm — because no one had ever set them to 24 hours. The single best thing about the business was hidden from the one filter that would have showcased it.
Google's "open now" filter only shows what your hours claim, and theirs claimed closed at the exact moment night-shift members searched.
We set hours to 24/7, added the "open 24 hours" attribute, and posted about midnight access with photos of the empty 2am floor.
Within two weeks the gym surfaced for every late-night "open now" search.
Late-night trial sign-ups jumped 33%, and the listing climbed to position 2 for "gym near me" as engagement rose.
The lesson: your hours and attributes aren't paperwork — they decide which searches you even qualify for, and your best selling point is worthless if your profile keeps it secret.
