40 hours of content vs 40 DMs: the cold comparison
Everyone says: "Build in public and the leads come inbound — no more cold outreach."
A founder split a month down the middle. Two weeks: pour everything into posting, 6 polished posts, ~40 hours. Two weeks: 40 personalised, non-pitchy DMs to fitting prospects, ~12 hours.
The claim: organic content replaces outbound.
Content fortnight: 22,000 total impressions, 2 booked calls.
DM fortnight: 40 messages, 9 replies, 5 booked calls — at a third of the time.
What's true: the content made the DMs warmer — people had seen his posts. So they compound together. But "posting instead of reaching out" left money on the table.
Content is the air cover. Outbound is the ground game. The folklore that one kills the need for the other is just an excuse to avoid the harder work.
