"Collect as many testimonials as you can." [DEPENDS]
A coaching business had 40 glowing testimonials in a grid. Conversions flat. They deleted 37, kept 3, and rewrote each as a mini-story with a number and a name.
— Sales page conversion rose from 1.8% to 3.4%
Why it spread: more proof feels like more persuasion, and grids look abundant.
The boring truth: "Amazing service, highly recommend!" times forty is noise. Identical praise reads as either fake or generic; the eye glazes and scrolls. Volume without specificity actively lowers credibility.
The nuance the social-proof checklist skipped: one testimonial that names a starting point, an obstacle, and a measured result outperforms a wall of five-star confetti. Believability beats quantity, every time.
