Cutting creative file weight from 280KB to 90KB lifted win rate 5 points

Cutting creative file weight from 280KB to 90KB lifted win rate 5 points

A buyer's win rate trailed competitors on the same inventory at the same bid. The differentiator turned out to be the creative, via the publisher's render-time floor.

1. They noticed losses clustered on placements with a viewability-based dynamic floor (the floor rose for slots that historically rendered slow, heavy creatives).
2. They audited their tags: a 280KB animated unit with a heavy third-party verification wrapper.
3. They rebuilt the creative to 90KB and consolidated three measurement pixels into one wrapper.

Evidence: median render time fell from 640ms to 210ms. On the viewability-weighted placements, win rate rose from 19% to 24% at an unchanged bid, because the publisher's predicted-viewability model now scored the slot higher and lowered the effective floor for that creative.

Why it matters: in auctions with viewability-predicted floors, the creative is part of the bid. A heavy, slow-rendering unit raises the floor it has to clear. Weight reduction is a win-rate tactic, not just a UX one.
