Why did a plainer-looking email perform better?
A plain-text-style email is one that looks like a personal note, with little or no fancy design. Mailboxes sometimes trust these more because spammers love heavy graphics.
Why it matters: a coach's image-packed newsletter was landing in promotions tabs, where few people look.
What she tried for a month:
— Step 1: stripped one email down to mostly text with a single link
— Step 2: ✅ wrote it like a message to one friend, not a broadcast
— Step 3: compared opens against her usual designed template
Result: open rate rose from 22% to 34%, and more emails reached the main inbox instead of the promotions tab.
Tiny homework: rewrite one upcoming email as if texting a friend. Just draft it.
