"Breadcrumb schema improves rankings."

"Breadcrumb schema improves rankings."

No. But finish reading.

An online retailer added BreadcrumbList structured data to 7,500 category and product pages — clean implementation, validated in the testing tool. The hypothesis: ranking lift from better-understood site structure.

Ninety-day before/after on average position: 9.1 to 9.0. Nothing. Structured data is not a ranking factor; Google has said this plainly and the data agreed.

What it did do: replaced the raw URL in the SERP with a tidy breadcrumb path on roughly 80% of impressions. CTR on those rose a modest but real 4% because the result looked more legible and trustworthy.

So breadcrumbs earned their keep — through appearance, not ranking. File it correctly. If someone sells you schema markup as a "ranking boost," they're selling you a CTR cosmetic and the wrong reason for it. (Right tool, wrong promised mechanism.)
