Two near-identical sites, one disavowed, one didn't. The result was boring.
The myth: skipping disavow leaves rankings on the table.
An affiliate operator ran 14 doorway-clean niche sites in the same vertical, similar link profiles from the same scraper ecosystem. On 7, they uploaded aggressive disavow files. On 7, they did nothing.
After five months: the disavowed cohort averaged +2.1% organic, the untouched cohort +2.9%. Within margin of error — and the do-nothing group was marginally ahead.
Actually, this is the cleanest test most people will ever see. When automatic link discounting handles the junk, manual disavow adds no measurable lift.
Reality check: the closest thing to a controlled experiment here says disavow did nothing. Spend the hours on content.
