"Jump on trending audio to ride the wave"
A fashion creator tested it cleanly: 20 videos on currently-trending sounds, 20 on a silent original or unpopular audio. Same content quality.
Trending-audio median: 9,400 views. Off-trend median: 9,800. A statistical tie. The "wave" was a rounding error.
The mechanism: by the time a sound is visibly trending, it's been used 400,000 times. Your video competes inside an enormous, saturated cluster of near-identical content, so your relative retention has to be exceptional just to surface. Early on a sound, the cluster is thin and you get a cleaner test — but "already trending" is by definition late.
Trending audio isn't a tailwind, it's a crowd. If you chase sounds, chase them while they're small and weird, not after they're on every third video.
