Case study: IndexNow via Cloudflare with zero code
Setup: A 6k-page blog enabled Cloudflare's one-click IndexNow integration (free on any plan) instead of writing API calls. Cloudflare auto-generates the key and submits crawled URLs.
What it did well:
— Setup took under two minutes, no dev time
— Bing index lag on new posts fell from ~7 days to ~1 day
Where it fell short:
— It submits URLs Cloudflare sees crawled, not strictly your fresh content, so timing is approximate
— Zero visibility into what was submitted or rejected; you trust the toggle
— Google, again, ignores all of it
Verdict: 3.5/5. Brilliant effort-to-result ratio, but it's a black box. Power users will want the raw API for control.
Best for: small teams on Cloudflare with no developer. Not for: anyone who needs submission logs or audit trails.
