Heard this week: a pricing change that didn't blow up
Word is a managed WordPress platform finally raised prices after four years frozen — and a source tells us they did it with a tactic worth noting. New plans went up 22%, but every existing customer was grandfathered for 12 months, then nudged via a personalized 'here's your usage' email.
The outcome they're circulating: instead of the 8-9% churn spike the board feared, voluntary cancellations rose just 1.7% in the quarter after the increase. Average revenue per account climbed 14% net.
The trick, per our source, was showing each customer they were already using 80% of the next tier anyway.
Unconfirmed, but the CFO reportedly called it the cleanest raise they'd run.
Watch this: usage-anchored price increases are the new default.
