Two food blogs, same network, 4x RPM gap
The claim: "Blog A makes $40 RPM on Mediavine, Blog B makes $10 on the same network — Blog B is doing something wrong."
The asterisk: Blog A pulls 68% US/UK/Canada/Australia traffic. Blog B pulls 54% from India, Pakistan, and the Philippines. Advertiser bids in tier-3 geos run a fraction of tier-1, sometimes a tenth.
🚩 Hidden variable: traffic geography, which neither RPM number discloses. Same content, same density, same network — the auction simply values the audiences differently.
Blog B isn't misconfigured. It's serving readers advertisers won't pay for.
Not saying Blog B is bad — saying you cannot compare two RPMs until you've normalized for where the readers live. The network is identical; the audience isn't.
