End screen vs. mid-roll card, the session-time experiment
A source running a 250K history channel told me they tested moving their 'next video' nudge from the end screen to a mid-roll info card at the 60% mark, where retention naturally dips.
The numbers, end-screen click-through was 2.3%. The mid-roll card hit 4.9%, more than double, and crucially it caught viewers before they bounced.
Session watch time per visitor rose about 18% channel-wide once they rolled it to the catalog.
What this means for you, the end screen fires after most people have already left. Catch them at the dip. confidence: high, they ran it across 40 videos.
