Best of the inbox: when the emoji subject line LOST
A refreshing counter-result, because most subject-line content only brags about winners.
🧪 Tests
— Emoji vs plain, 240k sends — A finance-offer list ran a clean A/B: identical copy, one with a leading emoji. Plain won opens 22.4% to 19.8%, and clicks by a wider margin. Worth your time: the author segmented by inbox and found the emoji versions skewed toward Promotions placement in Gmail.
— The lowercase-subject variant — Same study, a lowercase 'first-name only' subject beat title-case by 11% on opens in the engaged segment.
Made the cut because the sample size is real and they published the loser. Honesty over hype.
Saved you ~1 hour and the temptation to copy a tactic that backfires in finance verticals.
