One dead URL got me 7 placements
A popular stats post in my niche 404'd last month. I noticed because my own old article linked to it.
So I rebuilt the resource — better, updated numbers — and ran a broken-link sweep. 230 pages still linked to the dead page.
The email, word for word:
— "Hey, your post links to [X] which is dead now — here's a live replacement with 2026 data if it helps your readers."
Sent 230. 31 fixed it. 7 of those let me write a full guest post on top of it because I'd 'proven I knew the topic.'
Dead links are free leverage. Go find one.
