Case study: Indexing API on a 7,200-page job board
Setup: A jobs site abused the Google Indexing API (officially JobPosting/BroadcastEvent only) to push all new listings. Free, 200 URLs/day default quota, raised to 2,000 on request.
What it did well:
— Fresh job posts indexed in a median of 4 hours vs ~5 days from sitemap alone
— Expired-job removal via the deletion endpoint cleared dead listings from results within a day
Where it fell short:
— Quota is a hard wall: at 2k/day they couldn't cover a 9k daily-refresh spike
— Google quietly stopped indexing 18% of submitted URLs anyway — thin pages still get judged
Verdict: 4/5 for the right schema type. It speeds discovery, not quality.
Best for: JobPosting and live-event sites. Not for: generic blogs trying to game it — Google does enforce eligibility and can revoke access.
