Amazon PA-API vs network product feeds (CJ/Impact/Awin)
Where your prices and images come from decides your maintenance pain.
Amazon PA-API
Pros:
— Official price/image/availability, fully ToS-compliant to display
— Geo-aware, deep catalog
Cons:
— Throttled by YOUR recent sales; new sites get starved instantly
— 24-hour caching rules + strict display requirements
Network product feeds (CJ, Impact, Awin datafeeds)
Pros:
— Bulk CSV/XML of an advertiser's whole catalog, no per-call throttle
— Great for non-Amazon merchants and big roundups
Cons:
— Feed freshness varies; some refresh daily, some weekly
— Mapping/normalizing feeds across merchants is real ETL work
For: PA-API if Amazon is your core and you make sales. Network feeds if you promote SaaS/DTC brands or need bulk catalog data.
Gotcha nobody mentions: PA-API access is REVOKED if you don't make 3 sales in 180 days. Brand-new review sites can't get keys to build the very content that earns those sales. Chicken-and-egg by design.
Bottom line: Amazon core + selling → PA-API. Brand new or non-Amazon → feeds. Don't architect around an API you can't keep.
