Queue model vs calendar model: pick the right mental model

Queue model vs calendar model: pick the right mental model

Schedulers split into two philosophies. Choosing wrong means fighting the tool daily.

Queue-based (set slots, content flows in)
✔ Buffer, SocialBee: define time slots once, drop posts into the next open one
✔ Great for steady, high-frequency, evergreen output
✖ Weak for date-specific campaigns

Calendar-based (drag posts onto exact dates)
✔ Later, Planoly, CoSchedule: visual, campaign-driven
✔ Great for launches, seasonal, coordinated pushes
✖ Tedious for 'just keep posting consistently'

The hybrid: SocialBee and Sprout do both — slots for evergreen, calendar for campaigns.

Pricing: Buffer from $6/channel, SocialBee from $29/mo, Later from $25/mo.

Best for: queue lovers go SocialBee; campaign planners go Later.

Pick the queue model if consistency is your goal, calendar if you think in campaigns. Mismatch here is why people abandon tools.
