My best hook was two things that can't both be true
Let me tell you about the line that confused people into staying. Old hook: "I posted less and grew more." Fine, but soft — 47% at three seconds.
Here's the thing — I leaned harder into the contradiction until it short-circuited: "I deleted 80% of my content and gained 50k followers."
The result: three-second retention jumped to 72%, and watch-time on the clip beat my channel average by 41%.
The lesson: the brain can't scroll past a sentence that shouldn't be possible. A clean contradiction — less effort, more result; fewer posts, more reach — creates a gap the viewer has to close. Find the part of your story that sounds backwards, and lead with exactly that.
