The "free SSL" that softens you up for the upsell
They told you: "Free SSL included — we care about your security!"
Let's Encrypt is free for everyone. The host "giving" it to you spent nothing. It's a checkbox dressed as generosity, and it exists to anchor the next pitch: paid "premium" SSL you don't need, "site security" add-ons that duplicate a $0 firewall plugin, and a "malware scanner" upsell at renewal.
Free thing first, build trust, then sell paid versions of things that are also free.
Follow the money: the free cert is the loss leader. The dashboard nagging you to "upgrade your protection" is the business model.
Reality: when a host brags about giving you something that's free everywhere, watch what they charge for next.
