This week in caching, the warm-it-and-it'll-be-fast hope:
— The plan: run a crawler after deploy to pre-populate every page.
— The flaw: warming helps first-visit latency but does nothing for capacity-bound caches that evict your warmed pages before real traffic arrives, and it can hammer your origin into a slow deploy.
— Worth your time: warm by traffic priority (top URLs from your logs), not breadth. A warmed long-tail page that evicts a hot homepage is negative work.
Bookmark: warm the few pages that get the most requests, throttled. Blanket warming is mostly busywork that competes with your own users for cache space.
