New to deals? Start here: should I say my price first?
Yes, almost always name your number first. "Whoever speaks first loses" is poker advice, not brand-deal advice. Brands have a budget range in their head; your job is to land near the top of it, not guess blindly.
Why it matters: if you ask "what's your budget?" you often get the floor, not the ceiling. Naming a confident number sets the anchor everyone negotiates around.
Simple example: you'd be happy with $500. You open at $700. They counter $550. You settle at $600 — above your happy number.
Your move: decide your real "happy" number, then open 30-40% above it. Send it plainly: "My rate for this is $700."
