Case #027: The ban I designed out before launch
A weight-loss campaign on a major traffic source: $1,900 ready to deploy. The graveyard of this niche is full of buyers who launched, scaled, and got banned on day 3 — account and budget gone. I now run a compliance pre-check that's saved two ad accounts. Here it is.
— Read the source's prohibited-claims list, line by line: I keep the platform's policy doc open. Weight-loss bans 'before/after' and specific-number promises. My draft creative had both. Cut.
— Scrub the prelander, not just the ad: reviewers click through. A compliant ad over a non-compliant page gets you banned anyway. I cleaned three claims off the bridge.
— Check the offer's own landing page: if the advertiser's page makes banned claims, the source can ban you for sending traffic to it. I flagged one claim to the affiliate manager and got a cleaned URL.
— Cloak nothing on the major sources: cloaking is the fastest permanent ban. I run clean or I don't run there. Period.
— Warm the account before scaling: new ad account starts at $30/day for three days, builds trust history, then scales. A cold account dumping $600 day-one flags every system.
— Keep a backup account compliant and ready: not for cloaking — for platform outages and review delays, so a campaign never dies waiting.
Clean creatives, clean bridge, warmed account: zero strikes. The campaign ran the full window — $1,900 spent, $2,980 back, 57% ROI — and the account survived to run the next one.
The lesson: a banned account makes every future ROI zero — spend the hour reading the policy, because the cheapest campaign is the one that never gets your account killed.
